PARKS CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN II

HOURLY RATE: $27.95 - $29.55

Join the City of Wentzville as a Park Construction Technician II, where you'll build upon your Technician I skills and take part in exciting park construction projects. You'll be at the forefront of crafting and maintaining various park buildings, outdoor facilities, and amenities, ensuring they meet our high standards of quality and functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform skilled construction work across various trades, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, roofing, painting, and concrete/masonry work.
  • Interpret construction plans to ensure quality workmanship.
  • Assist in coordinating work and work crews to ensure timely project completion.
  • Operate assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Provide technical guidance, functional direction, and training to fellow employees.
  • Determine appropriate work methods, tools, and materials for most assignments.
  • Occasionally lead crews or other technicians for specific projects.

Qualifications

Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or carpentry building trade is required.
  • Job-relevant certification/license, vocational/technical program completion, or completion of apprenticeship preferred.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a First-Aid/CPR certification within 1 year of the hire date.
  • Valid drivers license is required upon hire. 
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A CDL with airbrake endorsement within 180 days of employment required. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.

  • Strong understanding and knowledge of various construction trades, including concrete work, framing, plumbing, HVAC systems, drywall installation, electrical work, roofing, siding, and masonry.
  • Experience in interpreting and working from construction blueprints and/or specifications, working diagrams, GIS data, sketches, schematic drawings, and other construction documents.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, vehicles, tools, equipment, and safety practices employed in the construction of buildings, park facilities, and aquatic facilities.
  • Ability to instruct others in the use of tools and equipment and the occupational hazards of the work. 
  • Ability to prepare simple reports and to maintain and organize systematic, complete, and accurate records. 
  • Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize tasks, both routine and complex, to meet deadlines, and when necessary, delegate work effectively to optimize productivity.
  • Ability to accept constructive criticism, supervision, and demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in new situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team atmosphere, as necessary, promoting positive and effective working relationships with staff and external customers.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, co-workers, and customers through telephone, written correspondence, and in-person
  • Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work for self and others, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to proficiently operate computers and the related software programs and applications necessary for successful job performance.
