Job Description
The Honors College at the University of Missouri-St. Louis invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track, Assistant Teaching Professor. This position requires a demonstrated ability to teach courses in composition, including writing in the sciences, and in our first-year experience courses, Cultural Traditions I and II. The Cultural Traditions curriculum centers on engaging students with global texts from the ancient world through the modern day; as the Honors FYE course, it provides an essential foundation for Honors learning, community-building, and professional development. Applications from any discipline will be accepted, but the humanities or social sciences are preferred.
All Honors appointments include a significant service component focused on student support. Honors non-tenure track faculty teach three courses each semester along with duties including academic advising, new student recruiting and participation in Honors community events. In addition, this position will coordinate and eventually direct the Cultural Traditions faculty, its Living & Learning Community and peer mentor team.
The initial appointment will be for one academic year, with the possibility of ongoing renewal and the opportunity for advancement to Associate and Full Teaching Professor (non-tenure track). Appointments of up to three years are possible as the faculty member moves through academic ranks.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree and 3 or more years of significant college teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to teach introductory or advanced composition courses
- Terminal degree by the time of appointment with a demonstrated ability to teach introductory and advanced composition courses.
- Demonstrated ability to teach introductory courses from a multidisciplinary perspective.
- Experience with undergraduate academic program development and first-year experience courses.
- Experience teaching small, discussion-based seminars, particularly in an honors program.
- Evidence of innovative pedagogy, including interdisciplinary courses, service learning or community engagement.
- Student advising and mentoring experience.
- Experience fostering a culture and climate of inclusive excellence.
- Experience supporting success of students from diverse backgrounds.
