University of Pittsburgh, Department of Ophthalmology is searching for a Research Technician I. This Animal Research Associate will manage rodent research studies aimed at the development of new approaches to treat blindness. Bachelor's degree in a scientific field or equivalent combination of experience and training. • Mastery or experience working with rodents • Position requires excellent communication and organizational skills, self-motivation, ability to learn quickly, complete tasks efficiently, and work independently. • Training to perform duties will be provided. |
Job Summary
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
Essential Functions
Job duties will include:
• Manage Charles River off-site mouse breeding
• Maintain limited number of rodent colonies (including breeding, weaning, tagging and submitting biopsies for genotyping) within animal facility at UPMC Mercy Vision Research Institute
• Manage colony databases
• Communicate with regulatory entities and maintain pertinent paperwork
• Set up and document animal studies as determined by principal investigator or members of research teams
• Collect, bank, and catalog ocular tissues
• Animal Research Associate will have an opportunity to be trained and develop additional skills (analysis of vision in rodents, performing ocular surgery, compiling data for presentations, papers, and grants)
• Training to perform duties will be provided.
