Senior Laboratory Specialist
The Division of Infectious Diseases is hiring a new Laboratory Specialist in the Nguyen-Clancy lab. When this individual joins the lab, they will be performing genetics, protein chemistry, and in vitro and in vivo treatment experiments on pathogenic gram-negative bacteria and fungi. A strong candidate will have previous laboratory experience, a willingness to be trained in genomics laboratory techniques, and excellent time management skills. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to bacterial culture, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, antimicrobial synergy testing, PCR and sequencing, gene deletion and complementation, protein extraction and quantification, polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and isoelectric focusing. The Laboratory Specialist will assist with general lab maintenance and upkeep including preparation of buffers and media, autoclaving, and dishwashing. Experience with these responsibilities is NOT NECESSARY, as training will be provided for a suitable candidate.
Job Summary
Performs a variety of independent laboratory work and experiments such as determining experimental protocols and preparation of specimens and cultures. Prepares reports of findings subsequent to compilation and analyzation. Oversees specimen inventory. Develops documentation for publication; crafts manuscripts and grant proposals.
Essential Functions
This position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and basic computer skills.
Physical Effort
This position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
