THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION

JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Research Associate performs interdisciplinary research projects that use zebrafish, mouse, and rabbit models to study calcium signaling in retinal synapses during development, adulthood, and disease in the Department of Pharmacology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Participates in research in the study of calcium signaling (in-vivo and in-vitro) in retinal synapses during development, adulthood, and disease.
  2. Performs electrophysiology, multiphoton, confocal imaging, molecular biology, and biochemistry experiments under the supervision of the Principal Investigator (PI).
  3. Performs analysis of the generated data under the direction of the PI.
  4. Participates in the research project design, and manuscript and grant writing.
  5. Plans experiments (design, preparation for the experiment, writing procedure and protocols, writing lab notes), data recording, and data analysis.
  6. Participates in conferences and lab meetings.
  7. Prepares reagents, maintains supply inventory, orders supply, maintains equipment, and manages animal colony.
  8. Assists students in research projects and experiments.
  9. Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications :

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Ph.D. in Physiology, Biological Sciences, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years related experience. Knowledge related to areas of cell biology, retinal biology, physiology, and retinal diseases.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

· Excellent organizational and communication skills.

· Ability to learn new techniques.

· Knowledge of manuscript and research proposal writing.

· Ability to think logically.

· Knowledge of confocal microscopy, immunohistochemistry, molecular biology assays, and zebrafish handling is preferred.

WORK SCHEDULE: This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings. May occasionally require overnight travel.
