THIS IS A GRANT-FUNDED POSITION
JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Research Technician 1 determines new admissions for potential consent to the Biorepository and Integrative Genomics Initiative (BIG) to inpatient units and/or clinic areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Abides by all hospital safety requirements for visiting patients in general care, clinics, and restricted rooms, including infection precautions and Intensive Care Unit access.
- Screen and organizes all new admissions and new patient visits.
- Greets patients and families in a friendly and professional manner.
- Ensures thorough review of the required elements of informed consent.
- Answers questions regarding the study and asks questions to ensure comprehension.
- Demonstrates knowledge of Good Clinical Practice and research consent requirements.
- Ensures appropriate informed consent signatures and provides the patient/Legally Authorized Representative (LAR) with a signed copy of the consent document.
- Documents consent discussion completely and accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR). Provides documents to Health Information.
- Generates daily institutional reports on inpatient admissions and/or clinic schedules.
- Documents recruitment outcome in EMR by utilizing the consent flag, indicating participants decision to agree or decline participation.
- Understands, applies, and supports departmental/hospital policies, procedures, and standards.
- Attends meetings, in-services and training sessions as required or requested.
- Follows established protocols and procedures to review and consent participants for study using the consent video and consent document.
- Provides regular reports regarding recruitment activity.
- Responds to audits and makes corrections.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of college course work in science and one (1) year of laboratory experience; OR two (2) years of laboratory experience at Research Technician level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and human relation skills.
- Ability to complete task and work independently without constant supervision.
- Strict attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Ability to accurately perform data entry and navigate in a Windows environment, computer, or table. Experience with REDCap and Cerner is preferred.
