Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, the Sr. Accountant maintains and reconciles ledgers and accounts according to generally accepted accounting principles. Prepares and analyzes financial information, prepares reports and financial statements based upon derived statistics and analysis performed.
The ideal candidate would be a highly organized, reliable self-starter; willing to work in a fast-paced environment and solve problems efficiently; and have experience working in an accounting or finance role. The candidate must organize and track a significant volume of transactions, work with many staff members in the department, and be adept at interpreting accounting systems and requirements.

Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus two years professional accounting experience. Also required are a thorough knowledge of established accounting principles and practices, knowledge of accounting software, advanced spreadsheet skills, the ability to write queries and macros and demonstrated analytical, problem solving, human relations and effective communication skills.
Certifications as a Certified Public Accountant may be preferred for certain positions.
Preferences
Bachelor's degree in a related area. Demonstrated ability to work independently, analyze a significant volume of material in meticulous detail, identify potential errors, and make decisions based on findings. Strong coordination and organizational skills as well as excellent communication skills. Proficiency in MS Word, and MS Outlook with advanced skill in MS Excel.

Responsibilities
- This position is responsible for navigating office procedures and relationships across campus, working with departments (accounts payable, travel, scheduling, etc.), faculty, and students to create and provide systematic solutions
- Managing financial records such as: reconciling tuition accounts; budgeting; preparing payment requests, scholarships, and payroll; reviewing department financial management reports, reconciling payments for open enrollment and custom courses, including managing potential discounts and vouchers
- Develop and track budget for individual projects and classes and departmental budgets
- Work directly with faculty members to process faculty pay and other financial considerations; work with vendors and University staff outside the department to resolve inconsistencies and process payments
- Respond to a variety of accounting-related questions and assist in settling discrepancies
- Use a variety of campus financial systems and software to track finances and provide easy to interpret reports to management; develop and implement innovations to the accounting process
- Generate reports for the Associate Dean reflecting recruiting and financial data including compiling survey results
- Ensure alignment of all areas of the organization, including corporate outreach, program portfolio management, technology-enhanced learning, service operations, finance and human resources.
- Ensure transactions for all personnel within the assigned units are performed in compliance with University policy and procedure.
- Oversee aspects of the office operations and develop appropriate processes and procedures to ensure efficient delivery of services.
- Cross-train in multiple areas to become familiar with all programs within the department
- Serve as a point of contact for the office in a variety of capacities
- Other duties as assigned
